Mamoru Oshii’s Angel’s Egg Cinema Screening on July 27

Mamoru Oshii’s Angel’s Egg will be screening on July 27 at 7 pm at The Place theatre in Bedford. The screening is part of Film Feels Curious, a UK-wide cinema season, supported by the National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network.

Initially released in Japan in 1985 the OVA (Original Video Animation) from Studio DEEN was written and directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Garm Wars: The Last Druid) and also serves as a collaboration between Oshi and renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano.

Angel’s Egg has never been released in the West in its original form. However, the 1987 film In the Aftermath by Carl Colpaert is loosely based on Oshii’s OVA and uses footage from Angel’s Egg together with live-action segments. In the Aftermath was released on Blu-ray in 2019 by distributor Arrow Video.
