With Golden Week around the corner, it’s a combined issue of Weekly Shonen Jump this week. Issue #21/22 features a full roster of the current series. One Piece taking the lead colour pages, Candy Flurry and My Hero Academia also featuring colour pages. Weekly Shonen Jump will be back with issue #23 on May 9th following Golden Week.

You can read all of the chapters listed below for free via the Shonen Jump app or website. Note that you can only read the first 3 chapters and the latest 3 chapters of a given series for free. You can access the rest of the chapters plus more series by subscribing for a monthly fee of £1.99/$1.99.

You can also read via the Manga Plus app or website. There’s no paid option so it’s entirely free with a lot of other series available in their entirety.

Each series is listed in the order they appear in a given issue. Then accompanied by a brief opinion of that chapter.

One Piece Ch. 1011

This chapter was more centred around Big Mom who appears to have a new familiar Hera. Who in Greek mythology is the wife of Zeus. This is interesting because it’s said that Zeus had numerous affairs. This leads me to believe Nami may manage to reclaim Zeus in the future. Big Mom also remembers her time with Tama and Okeburo town as Olin. Which leads to her turning on Kaido’s men much to the straw hats benefit.

I wonder if Eiichiro Oda has a spreadsheet to keep track of where every character is at a given point. Because we’re always treated to a nice balance of concurrent events. Even with so much going on in One Piece I’m always left wanting more.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles Ch. 60

Something big is on the horizon meanwhile Mash is taking on his most powerful foe yet. With the ability to now move at the speed of sound Margarette Macaron overwhelms Mash for a time. Mash of course begins to mount a comeback grounded in the scientific principles of how sound works. The ridiculousness of this series knows no bounds.

Jujutsu Kaisen Ch. 147

A very interesting chapter in that we learn about Panda and how the curse corpses work from Yaga. The reason for his death seems weak at best. We really never got to see much of him in the series. This was the first piece of backstory on him and now he’s gone. Hopefully, this will be used to further strengthen Panda’s character going forward.

While this was a good chapter the order of events and the story as a whole is getting confusing. There’s no flow between events to keep storytelling consistent.

Dr. Stone Ch. 194

It’s a new game plus and Suika’s revived thanks to the team’s ingenious plan. She’s all alone though with no more revival fluid to hand or anyone to help her. Reaching this point has been such a thrill ride that I never stopped to consider the risks of this plan. Will Suika survive all alone and who will she revive first when she inevitably gains the means. Are there more surprises in store?

Black Clover Ch. 291

What I hoped for last week has come to pass and we’re following a different fight. Magna has returned and is set on fighting Dante of the Dark Triad. Armed with a new spell Soul Chain Death Match he’s successfully robbed Dante of half his power. The rules of this new spell have definitely piqued my interest in this fight. With Zora waiting in the wings I’m sure there’ll be a lot of new powers on display.

Candy Flurry (Ame no Furu) Ch. 2 – Colour

This was a much better chapter than the first. It included a lot of the elements that should have been in that first chapter. Hopefully, this will give the series a good starting point as I think the premise is interesting enough. There was definitely a better flow to this chapter.

The Elusive Samurai Ch. 14

One of the better chapters we have seen since the start of this series. It didn’t rely heavily on the weirdness that previous chapters have although it is still present. There was a good wrap up to the command scroll theft. Even detailed the role that ninja play in times of war. I feel the series still has a long way to go if it wants to remain in Jump.

Mission: Yozakura Family Ch. 80

The history between the Yozakura family and Dr Kawashita opens up even further. With the revelation of the first head being tested on in his lab in the past. Taiyo is still prepared to do whatever it takes to protect Mitsumi and the Yozakura family. Kawashita’s motives appear to have a deeper connection to the first head.

My Hero Academia Ch. 310 – Colour

The tone for this chapter has really reinforced the dire situation the heroes are in. Not only them but the world as a whole. Deku’s growth has been fast-forwarded to match the current climate and brought about a Batman-esque vibe to his current standing. We’re still learning more about the previous holders of one-for-all as well as the original holder.

Blue Box Ch. 3

Firstly, let’s take a moment to appreciate how beautiful the art is! I’m really enjoying the potential romantic entanglement at play here. The complicated nature of their relationship and how that is seeping into their extracurricular school activities. I feel the series is doing a lot of things right so far let’s hope it continues.

Witch Watch Ch. 12

I’ll be honest this chapter did make me chuckle, it was a silly premise. If that’s what the series is now going to focus on then it might work out for the better. There’s still not much depth to really make me care about with this series though.

Me & Roboco Ch. 39

I’m finding this series becoming very middle of the road in terms of quality. It’s not bad but it’s not particularly good either. A few panels make you force out a sound in place of a laugh but it’s mostly just plain vanilla. While these chapters are on the shorter side at 15 pages I feel they would work better with even less.

Sakamoto Days Ch. 21

Visiting a dinosaur museum/theme park, taking photos in costume and fighting robotic bears are all normal occurrences within Sakamoto Days. The pairing of Sakamoto and Shin is so good. This chapter didn’t have the same level of action the previous weeks did but it’s clearly building to something bigger.

Highschool Family: Kokosei Kazoku Ch. 36

I really enjoy these chapters that focus on a character outside of the family. Seeing Suzaki receive help, not from Ichiro or even the son but Haruka was great. I find Haruka’s interactions with her older classmates and fellow students really intriguing. She tries hard to understand what they are interested in and fit that persona. At the same time, she’s only a little kid albeit academically smarter. The way she set up a game to help Suzaki study shows her childlike nature. Her ability to recognise that you don’t need to understand the meaning of a word only memorize it for the test shows she’s a level above everyone else.

Undead Unluck Ch. 61

Feng is such an interesting character it’s just a shame that we don’t have a bigger backstory to draw on. Especially when it comes to the hatred Shen displays for him. Sure we know the basic details but this arc could be so much more impactful. Still, Feng is a really good test for both Andy and Shen. This chapter really shows his high level of skill with martial arts. I hope we can see an even greater fight against him in the coming chapters.

Ayakashi Triangle (Web-Only) Ch. 42

After last week’s belly button sucking shenanigans there’s a new addition to the cast. I honestly wonder how this series manages to get away with the level of lewdness it does!

Magu-Chan: God of Destruction Ch. 41

The premise of this chapter wasn’t all bad. Making a copy of Magu and having it learn from the real one only to malfunction and cause mischief. It was fun on the surface but never quite amounted to much as it was let down in the execution.

Nine Dragons’ Ball Parade Ch. 11

Good conclusion to this part of the story. Tsubaki is now part of the team and they can now focus on recruiting some more members. I enjoyed this focus on Tsubaki more than the previous chapter. It provided an insight into his value as a team member rather than just a genius solo player. I do feel this could have been done in fewer chapters. However, it was a good way of working in an actual game of baseball in the story.

Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin Ch. 40

Underwater fights are easily one of the best things in this series and so far each one has been epic. Captain Lady (I forget her name) takes on the fast-moving and hard-hitting merman in Seido Ikkaku. The Captain manages to turn the tide of battle with incredible swiftness and force. Thanks to the ace up her sleeve in the Agito technique.

i tell c Ch. 13

This was a very generic chapter with very little substance. The main themes that made the story unique albeit uncomfortably weird have been replaced with a safer trope-ridden art thief caper. This lighter tone has done the characters no favours who now feel very one dimensional.
