​Free Japanese Film Festival

Japanese Art Through Films last event ‘Distributors choice’ takesplace next month on June 7 th and will be a day-long film festivalconsisting of two animation movies and two live action movies. The films beingscreened are the best Japanese films in the UK, as chosen by theirdistributors. Taking place at The Curve, downstairs in The Forum in Norwich ( http://www.theforumnorwich.co.uk/contact-us/find-us ),the event will begin with the first screening at 12pm and more importantly it’scompletely FREE!

12:00: Manga Entertainment UK’s Choice: Wolf Children (dir. Mamoru Hosoda, 2012, Cert 12, 117mins)

This delightful anime about a single mother raising hermagical wolf children comes from one of Japan’s rising stars of anime.

14:30: AnimeUK’s Choice: MaiMai Miracle (dir. Sunao Katabuchi, 2009, Cert TBC, 93mins)

A beautiful, Studio Ghibli-esue story from the famousMadhouse animation studio in Japan, MaiMai Miracle is the story of 9-year old Shinko, who imagines herself livingin a bygone age.

17:00: BFI’s Choice: StrayDog (dir. Akira Kurosawa, 1949, Cert PG, 121mins)

Akira Kurosawa fantastic noir crime drama, Stray Dog , follows detective Murakami(played by Toshiro Mifune) through Tokyo’s murky underworld in an attempt torecover his stolen pistol.

19:30 Third Window Film’s Choice: Villain (Sang-il Lee, 2010, Cert 15, 139mins)

Dubbed “The Best Film of the Year” by the Japan Times in 2010, Villain is anoir-crime film that won multiple awards in Japan.
