Crunchyroll Announce Changes to Ad-Supported Viewing from Spring 2022 Season

Crunchyroll have announced that for the Spring 2022 Season and future seasonal releases, a subscription will be required to view new and continuing simulcasts.

Outside of the newly introduced “seasonal sampler” (details below) Crunchyroll will no longer offer simulcast episodes one week after release for ad-supported free viewing. This applies to both new and continuing series starting from the Spring 2022 Season. However, Crunchyroll has stated that previously published episodes will still be available to all user types.

Free viewing of new seasonal simulcasts will be available for a limited time as part of the new “seasonal sampler”. This, however, only includes the initial episodes of select titles. The first three episodes of the following Spring 2022 titles can be simulcast for free with ads:

  • Spy x Family
  • A Couple of Cuckoos
  • Dawn of the Witch
  • Tomodachi Game
  • Skeleton Knight in Another World
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
  • The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody
  • Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs

The first three episodes of the above titles will be available for free, ad-support viewing one week after their subscription-only premiere until May 31. After this date, all episodes as part of the seasonal sampler will require a subscription to view.

To try out Crunchyroll premium membership and to enjoy full access to simulcasts and catalogue content, you can sign up for our 14-Day Free Trial at any time.
