Autumn 2015 Anime Season Preview

Welcome to the Autumn 2015 season preview, here to help you decide what to watch this season and with so many series coming out each season it can be a daunting task. To help you even further we will be giving links to any simulcast that a series may have and will keep them updated throughout the season. You can also find our writers thoughts on select series that they are interested in and their expectation level.

This is by no means a complete list of every series airing this season, shows geared towards young children have been omitted as have OVAs and Movies. We have deemed it necessary for TV shorts to have their own season preview which will be available tomorrow.

Our thoughts: From the key images alone I’m getting a lot of Eureka Seven vibes from this series that in itself makes it a must watch for me, as an original anime it’s hard to gauge whether it’s going to be good or not but that’s a gamble you take and you never know it may just blow us away. ~ Nick

The first episode is already available, and is a fairly average premiere episode. That said, towards the end, it did enough to really spark my interest in the series and I’ll be watching it for at least another few episodes before making my decision on whether to drop it or not. ~ Jordan

76143Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou
Air Date: Oct 4, 2015 to Dec 27, 2015
Studio: Bones
Episodes: 13
Simulcast: Daisuki
Synopsis: The stage is set in “another Japan” as a banquet of diverse superhumans unfolds…
In an imaginary “age of gods” about 20 years after the war, Japan has grown and developed by leaps and bounds. What if all the superhumans ever written about in fictional stories existed at the same time? Superhumans who came into existence through different circumstances, and who are special in different ways — Titans from outer space, lifeforms from a mystical world, phantoms and goblins from ancient times, cyborgs created by scientists, relics that rose out of the ruins of ancient civilizations, and the list goes on. One segment of these superhumans makes no secret of their existence and has gained popularity in society. Others cloak their identities and fight in secrecy.
There are enemies of superhumans as well, organizations that operate in the shadows.
The Japanese government has taken many measures to secure peace and order.
One is the establishment of an organization under the Ministry of Health and Welfare — the Overpopulation Research Laboratory, a.k.a. the Superhuman Bureau.
Their mission is to identify and approach superhumans, then oversee and safeguard them. One member of the Superhuman Bureau, Jiro Hitoyoshi, is protagonist of this series. (Source: Official website)

Our thoughts: There’s no doubt this series is going to be over-the-top and it sounds great, problem is series like this can be very hit and miss, they either become regarded as a holy grail of anime or fall flat on their face. I can only hope it isn’t the latter but only time will tell, based on the synopsis alone it’s placed rather high on my watch list. ~ Nick

The synopsis of this series really intrigued me, despite my hesitations caused by the art style on the poster. Thankfully, having now watched the first episode, I’m sure this is going to be one of the series I find myself wishing to own on blu-ray in 12 weeks time. ~ Jordan

The greatest academy battle entertainment, begins here! (Source: jCafe24)

Our thoughts: I’m in two minds about this series, it’s sounds interesting but a little samey at the same time, readers of the original light novel may feel differently but going in blind leaves me with a sense of doubt. Hopefully I’m proven wrong about my gut feeling and being split-cour it at least shouldn’t feel rushed. ~ Nick

We seem to get a couple of series with this general theme each cour. With past shows such as Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance and Seiken Tsukai no World Break I always aim to ensure each season’s offerings of this generic show make it into the list of series I give a try. They tend to be enjoyable anyway. ~ Jordan

76029Garo: Guren no Tsuki

However, the team soon cheers up when a chance for them to go to Tokyo appears. During their training camp there, Karasuno will meet new formidable opponents.

Our thoughts: Being a huge fan of the manga and the first season this is very high on my list, Production I.G have done a brilliant job with the first season and who ever knew volleyball could be so interesting. ~ Nick

75940Heavy Object
Air Date: Oct 3, 2015 to ?
Studio: J.C. Staff
Episodes:
Simulcast: Animax UK
Synopsis: Qwenthur came to the Alaskan military base to study Objects, the new weapons that have completely revolutionized war as we know it—battles are fought by soldiers controlling Objects far away from harm; however, when he starts to get close to Object pilot Milinda, will he discover the grim truth behind Heavy Objects?

Our thoughts: Based on a light novel series from the author of A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun expectation for this series are rather high, coupled with the fact it’s about mecha and I’m sold. J.C. Staff are a concern for me though as I find their adaptation very hit and miss A Certain Magical Index being one such victim in my eyes. ~ Nick

I’m mostly trying this season due to it being the series displacing GATE until January. Additionally, I was a fan of J.C. Staff’s shows from the summer season, and having not watched A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun, I have not yet been burned by the studio. The first episode was rather slow with exposition aplenty, but I intend to stick with it; of course, if Yen Press ever pick up the light novel for an English release, I’ll give it a read. ~ Jordan

With “jungle” once again jumping back into action, the fates of the various Kings are brought together.

Our thoughts: While I do intend to watch this at some point, it won’t be as a simulcast. Being set after the movie, I’ll be waiting for All The Anime to release that so I can pick both it and the first season up before watching this series. ~ Jordan

(Source: Crunchyroll)

Our thoughts: Lupin III has such a long history that it may be daunting to those who are interested, I, myself have only seen The Castle of Cagliostro but apparently part of the charm of Lupin III is that you can jump in wherever you like and still find it enjoyable. ~ Nick

Having recently experienced Lupin III through the Detective Conan crossover special and movie, I’m looking forward to watching this new series as it airs. Of course, I’ll be attempting to make my way through that vast backlog of Lupin III content alongside it. ~ Jordan

75879Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
Air Date: Oct 4, 2015 to ?
Studio: Sunrise
Episodes:
Simulcast: Crunchyroll / Daisuki / Gundam.info
Synopsis: 300 years after the Calamity War’s end.

The powers which ruled the Earth Sphere have been overthrown, giving way to new rulers of a new world, exhausted of battle. Meanwhile, far away on Mars, the sparks which threaten to ignite a new war have been struck…

Our protagonist Mikazuki Augus, a member of the private security firm Chryse Guard Security (CGS), takes on a mission as bodyguard of Kudelia Aina Bernstein, a young girl who agitates for Chryse’s independence from Earth. However, when the elite Gjallarhorn unit, charged with suppressing revolutionaries, raids CGS, its higher-ups deliberately use Mikazuki and the other boys as a decoy to cover their own retreat. Orga Itsuka, leader of the boys’ squad, takes this abandonment by the adults as motivation to launch a full-fledged coup d’état. With orders from Orga to hold back Gjallarhorn, Mikazuki sorties in Calamity War-era scrap that CGS had been using as a generator—the Gundam Barbatos… (Source: Gundam.info)

Our thoughts: If it’s Gundam I’m watching it, for newcomers to the Gundam universe Iron-Blooded Orphans is a standalone series so no previous experience with the franchise is needed. The fact that the director and series composer have had little to no experience working on a Gundam series actually excites me, I’m looking forward to what fresh ideas they may bring to the table. ~ Nick

With All The Anime bringing us the original Mobile Suit Gundam on blu-ray later this year, I need to get immersed in this big franchise; as a standalone series, this simulcast is perfect for me. Hopefully by the end of the year, I’ll be a big fan of Gundam and all it has to offer. ~ Jordan

75627Noragami Aragoto

Studio: Bones

She has a strong hate for Yato, as a dark past binds the two of them. How will the horrifying events dated hundreds of years ago in combination with current evil happenings affect Yato and Yukine?

Our thoughts: I jumped at the chance to review the first season of Noragami last month, knowing the second season was coming; I thoroughly enjoyed the first season and look forward to watching this weekly, rather than over three days. ~ Jordan

76049One Punch Man
Air Date: Sep 6, 2015 to ?
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Episodes:
Simulcast: Animax UK / Daisuki
Synopsis: In this new action-comedy, everything about a young man named Saitama screams “AVERAGE,” from his lifeless expression, to his bald head, to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking fellow doesn’t have your average problem… He’s actually a superhero that’s looking for tough opponents! The problem is, every time he finds a promising candidate he beats the snot out of them in one punch. Can Saitama finally find an evil villain strong enough to challenge him? Follow Saitama through his hilarious romps as he searches for new bad guys to challenge! (Source: VIZ Media)

Our thoughts: Having followed the manga while it still maintained a rather cult popularity with the announcement for the anime it has exploded into a hype train, one that I’m rather worried of the fall out. Whatever happens I’m going to enjoy it for what it is a superhero parody series that doesn’t take itself to seriously and will no doubt be a fun ride. ~ Nick

This is one of the most hyped shows of the season; thusly, I’ll be watching it mostly to see if it can live up to the expectations everybody has. The first episode was enough to hook me on the series, and I’ll probably give the manga a shot at some point as well.~ Jordan

75408Ore ga Ojou-sama Gakkou ni “Shomin Sample” Toshite Gets-Sareta Ken
Air Date: Oct 7, 2015 to ?
Studio: Silver Link
Episodes:
Simulcast: Animax UK
Synopsis: In a hidden school surrounded by mountains, young ladies of good families are taught everything a high class lady needs to know. They are also completely cut off from the outside world, keeping them sheltered and innocent; however, a problem has come up recently—more and more graduates are failing to cope with the modern world after graduation. To deal with this problem, they’ve decided to kidnap a male commoner student, and enroll him as a student. They hope that this will be a gentle way to introduce the girls to the outside world.

Kagurazaka Kimito is chosen for this dubious honor, mostly because he seems utterly average; however, the school leaders also seem to have concluded he’s a homosexual with a muscle fetish. When Kimito hears that the alternative may be castration (to protect the girls’ purity), he eagerly plays along with this misconception. Now he’ll just have to survive the attention of many high class young ladies that are completely out of touch with the world! (Source: MangaHelpers)

Our thoughts: I’m not even going to attempt any real justification for this one. If an anime shows up on anichart.net with both romance and school listed in its genres, it’s a safe bet I’ll be trying it. I’m a big fan of school romance anime, something about the young love is incredibly heartwarming. This anime also has comedy listed, so I’m expecting it to be one of my favourites of the season by the end. ~ Jordan

Our thoughts: While I only really watched the first series for the impressive background art at first, the plot quickly grew on me. The finale episode of the last season had me begging for a second season, so the renewal was gladly welcomed. I can’t wait to watch this sequel series, and I hope All The Anime get a blu-ray of both seasons out at some point. ~ Jordan

Our thoughts: I don’t know what but there’s just something pulling me in with this series, I do like a good mystery series but it feels like more. The production staff and studio don’t have much experience to their name which is a concern but I’m feeling optimistic with this one. ~ Nick

Our thoughts: As a spin-off to the hugely popular Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) series the hype level are already through the roof, while it may not appeal to all AoT fans it will certainly help bridge the gap between the the first season and the eagerly awaited second season. ~ Nick

I rather enjoyed Shingeki no Kyojin when I finally got round to watching it upon its UK blu-ray release, and have been craving more of the anime since then. While this isn’t the season two I’m anticipating, it looks set to please me with its blending of characters I love and tropes I’ve become accustomed to over the years. ~ Jordan
