Netflix Anime Expo 2018 Announcements

Neflix’s presence at AX 2018, while not yielding much in the way of new announcements, serves as a reminder of Netflix’s intent on being part of the anime community.


Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle | July 18th, 2018

Polygon Pictures and Netflix Japan announced Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (Godzilla: Kessen Kidou Zoushoku Toshi), will be coming to the streaming platform on 18th July 2018 worldwide with multiple dub and subtitled language options. This is the second film in the trilogy from Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia) with the first film, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, still available to watch on Netflix.

 

On Earth, Haruo and his companions make contact with the indigenous Houtua tribe. To defeat Godzilla, they set out for the old Mechagodzilla facility.

Dragon Pilot | September 21st, 2018

Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan, the 12 episode original anime series from studio Bones recently aired during the Spring 2018 anime season heads to the streaming platform for the rest of the world on September 21st, 2018.

 

 

Recently stationed Air Self-Defense Force rookie Hisone Amakasu is chosen by a dragon concealed within Gifu Air Base to be his pilot.

Cannon Busters | April 1st, 2019

After a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2014 American comic writer LeSean Thomas and studio Satelight’s anime adaptation of Cannon Busters will finally be heading to Netflix on April 1st, 2019.  This is a collaboration project between LeSean Thomas, Satelight and UK distributor Manga Animatsu.

 

With a maintenance robot and a deadly fugitive tagging along, friendship droid S.A.M searches for its best friend, the heir to a kingdom under siege.

Aggretsuko | 2019

Sanrio’s Red Panda Retsuko returns to Netflix with a second season sometime in 2019.

Frustrated with her thankless office job, Retsuko the Red Panda copes with her daily struggles by belting out death metal karaoke after work.

Kengan Ashura | 2019

Based on the manga of the same name written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon, Kengan Ashura receives an anime adaptation from Larx Entertainment set to hit Netflix in 2019.

Underground gladiator Tokita Ohma fights on behalf of business mogul Nogi Hideki who wagers mega-business deals on the outcome of these brutal matches.

Ultraman | 2019

Production I.G.’s anime adaptation of Eiichi Shimizu’s on-going Ultraman manga adaptation has been announced as heading exclusively to Netflix in 2019.

 

 

Shinjiro is an ordinary teenager, but his father is the legendary Shin Hayata. When he learns that his father passed on the “Ultraman Factor” to him and that he possesses incredible powers, nothing will ever be the same again.
