Over at the Resident Evil booth, TGS attendees are able to try out Revelations 2 in a nice creepy little shed, kitted out with roughly fifteen 42” TV’s (aren’t they all?). In the short time we had with the game, it felt exactly what Resident Evil 6 should’ve been; dark, gritty and containing no digit-seizing button bashing or stick wrangling every time there’s a cutscene. The demo sees you in a prison-like setting with an oddly Saw-Esque motif; grainy shots from CCTV, remotely locked doors and spring-loaded contraptions, designed to hinder progress at the sinister glee of a hidden orchestrator. It’s a new move for Resi but not exactly innovation incarnate.
It’s easy to imagine multiplayer working really well (there are two of you; one on weapons detail and the other in charge of the flashlight) and it’s especially nice to have the option of switching characters anytime during single player, whether you fancy a change of skin or the A.I suddenly develops a crippling inability to make decisions mid-combat. Some mild puzzle-solving also necessitates switching to your unarmed counterpart as well, leaving you feeling oddly vulnerable. Let the game begin…
